In the last post regarding rebuking the enemy we took a brief look at Malachi 3. Let’s go back to that for a moment. Here is the passage:
8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed Me, even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. 11 “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” says the Lord of hosts; 12 “And all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land,” says the Lord of hosts.
There is some really deep and powerful stuff here. For one thing, it is the only place in all of Scripture where Yahweh challenges us to put Him to the test. In effect, He obligates Himself to perform these wonderful promises if we will only be obedient and “bring all the tithes into the storehouse.” The tithe is holy; the tithe is Yahweh’s (Lev. 27:30) – we have no business holding onto it. When we do that, when we hold back the tithe for whatever reason we are robbing God (I really don’t like that word: “whatever”). If you saw someone drop some money to the ground I am 100% confident that you would do the right thing and return it to its rightful owner. Yet we walk around with God’s money in our pocket all the time – and we wonder why He doesn’t always seem to be listening – hmm.
Obedience brings blessing – always. Always. It may not appear right away but it’s coming! When we bring our tithe to the storehouse (again, that is the church to which you have been joined, not some distant television ministry) our faithful Father has promised to pour out His divine favor upon us. Who wouldn’t want that? Part of that favor, something that you have perhaps never heard or considered before is this:
WHEN WE TITHE, YAHWEH REBUKES THE DEVOURER!
Here is the revelatory connection: every time we obediently bring our tithe to Yahweh we are declaring that Yahweh is holy and at the very same time we are proclaiming to our enemy “Yahweh rebuke you!”
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for the next opportunity to bring to Yahweh the tithe of what He has entrusted to me.
Be obedient and be blessed!
